Legendary Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni is once again showing why he is different from others. While most people thought MS Dhoni might retire after IPL 2025, the CSK legend has quietly gone back to doing what he does best, and that is training hard and staying ready for the next edition of the tournament.
For the past two months, Dhoni has been following a strict daily routine at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Every afternoon around 1:30, the former Indian captain arrives at the ground, hits the gym for an hour, and then spends nearly two hours in the nets working on his power-hitting.
MS Dhoni gears up for IPL 2026 with an intense training routine
With the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 matches going on, Dhoni doesn’t always get access to the main pitch at the JSCA Stadium. But whenever it’s free, the legendary finisher makes full use of it by doing match-like practice sessions.

After finishing his batting and fitness drills, Dhoni ends his routine with a 30-minute swimming session before heading home by 6 in the evening.
Fans in Ranchi have been spotting him often, riding his superbikes or vintage cars on his usual route to the stadium for nearly four and a half hours of intense training every day. But beyond the cool rides, it is clear that Dhoni is getting ready for a strong return with the Chennai Super Kings for the upcoming IPL 2026.
MS Dhoni follows a 4:30-hour training routine: JSCA
A JSCA official was quoted as saying by the Times of India on the condition of anonymity, “His routine has been fixed for the last two months. He comes to the stadium at 1:30 pm, hits the gym for an hour, then pads up and does power-hitting training in the nets for two hours.
If the center wicket is available and no match is happening, he also does match simulations. Mahi signs out after a swimming session for another half an hour. He leaves the complex at 6 pm. He is just doing the Mahi things that he has done all his life—working hard.”

MS Dhoni ready for another season, CSK plans flexible role
Meanwhile, the CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently put all retirement rumors to rest by confirming that Dhoni will continue playing next season. The 44-year-old is still as committed as ever, as he’s focused on fitness, discipline, and his batting for the next season after a poor 2025 campaign.
Last week at an event in Chennai, the CSK CEO stated, “No, he is not retiring before this IPL. We are hopeful about Dhoni playing next season.” Notably, Dhoni is among the rare players who were not released by their teams in IPL history, along with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
With Sanju Samson expected to join Chennai Super Kings from Rajasthan Royals in a trade deal, MS Dhoni may have more flexibility next season, possibly sharing the wicketkeeping duties while continuing to guide the team in the tournament.
