Mumbai Indians cricketer arrested in rape case amid IPL 2025

In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in NDTV, it is learned that former Mumbai Indians player Shivalik Sharma has been arrested on rape charges. The left-hander was taken into custody by the Rajasthan Police on Monday (5th May).

The reports claimed that an FIR against Shivalik Sharma was filed at the Kudi Bhagatsani police station in Jodhpur. Following that, the former Mumbai Indians cricketer was arrested. The investigation was carried out, and he was in court and was sent to judicial custody.

It is learned that the woman filed a police complaint against Shivalik Sharma, and the former Mumbai Indians batter was accused of engaging in physical relations with her under the false promise of marriage. As per the reports, the cricketer met her during a trip to Vadodara in February 2023.

The couple were then involved in a close relationship and were in regular contact. Following that, they got engaged as both families agreed to it, and the engagement was formalised in August 2023 when Shivalik’s parents visited Jodhpur.

After that, the former Mumbai Indians cricketer, along with her fiancé, returned to Jodhpur, and the couple was involved in physical relations as well. They travelled together and spent a good time before Shivalik Sharma's parents told the woman in 2024 that they are they considering other marriage proposals.

The parents of a former Mumbai Indians player mentioned that they would not proceed with the engagement, and this didn't go well with that woman. She lodged a formal complaint with the police, accusing Shivalik Sharma of raping her.

Authorities confirmed that all necessary legal procedures, including the woman’s medical examination and court statement, have been completed. Meanwhile, Sharma, who had been avoiding arrest, was being traced by the police after the complaint.

Shivalik Sharma represents Baroda in domestic cricket and has played 18 First Class, 13 List A and 19 T20 matches so far. The left-hander has been decent with the bat for his state, slamming 1087, 322 and 349 runs, respectively in the three formats.

Shivalik Sharma, who was with Mumbai Indians in the IPL, was also part of Baroda’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25. He played a vital hand for his team in the game against Jammu and Kashmir as he scored 64 runs in the first innings and 18 runs in the second innings.

However, his effort went in vain as Baroda went on to lose the game by 182 runs. The left-hander was picked by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 mini-auction for his base price of INR 20 lakh but didn’t get a chance to debut.
