Mumbai Indians desperate to cling to Rohit Sharma for IPL 2025, 2 more players threaten to quit

Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the greatest players in IPL history. His records speak about his performance as he is one of the few players remaining who has been associated with the IPL since its inaugural edition.

But the former Mumbai Indians captain is not certain about which team he will play for in the next IPL season. It has been speculated that Rohit might appear for Lucknow Super Giants from IPL 2025.

He has played for Mumbai Indians for most of his IPL career. He has also led Mumbai to a record five IPL titles.

However, Rohit was replaced as the captain of the team last year in favor of Hardik Pandya. There were reports that Rohit was seemingly unhappy with the management's decision and he might consider changing his team now.

Since there is a mega auction ahead of IPL 2025, there is a possibility that Mumbai might not retain Rohit if he is willing to change his team and go into the auction.

Will Rohit Sharma stay with Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025?

According to a report from journalist Rohit Juglan, Mumbai Indians are trying their best to stop Rohit from leaving the team. The report also claimed that if Rohit moves to Lucknow Super Giants, three MI players will also join Lucknow.

"Mumbai Indians is trying to stop Rohit Sharma. However, the players haven't said anything if Rohit wants to stay or not. According to my sources, Rohit wants to stay but three players haven't informed me if Rohit wants to stay or not. Those three players said that Mumbai are trying hard to convince Rohit to stay but we can't say anything other than that," Rohit Juglan said in a video uploaded on X (formerly Twitter).

"Meanwhile, two of the players also said that if Rohit is going to Lucknow (Super Giants), we will also move to the same franchise and this is a strong possibility. In the upcoming time, you will see many such permutations and combinations," he added.

Rohit's IPL journey

Rohit started his IPL career with the Deccan Chargers and played for the franchise in the first three IPL seasons from 2008-2010.

He scored over 350 runs in all three seasons and his consistency helped get him an India debut. He also won an IPL title with Deccan Chargers in 2009.

Rohit joined Mumbai Indians in 2011 and it turned out to be a game-changing moment in his career. He was appointed MI captain midway through IPL 2013 and went on to lead the team to a title win in his first IPL season as a captain.

Rohit's record as Mumbai Indians captain

Rohit led Mumbai Indians to IPL title wins in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. It was the golden period in the history of Mumbai Indians. However, the transition phase followed as MI saw numerous changes in their squad.

He was removed as MI captain before the IPL 2024 season. However, Mumbai finished last in the points table under the leadership of Hardik Pandya. The IPL 2024 season wasn't great for Rohit Sharma as a player either.
