Mumbai Indians have strengthened their squad ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction by acquiring USA left-arm pacer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz. The trade brings an experienced overseas bowler into the Mumbai-based franchise as teams prepare for the fifth edition of the tournament.
Norris will join Mumbai Indians at her existing contract fee of INR 10 lakh. The move comes ahead of the player auction scheduled for October 28, 2026, where franchises will look to complete their squads for the upcoming season.
WPL 2027 auction to be held on October 28
The fifth edition of the WPL is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed October 28 as the date for the player auction, which will take place at the Grand Hyatt Kochi.
Before the auction, all five franchises had to submit their player retention lists by September 28, 2026. The retention deadline gave teams an opportunity to keep players from their existing squads before turning their attention to the auction and other squad-building decisions.
The upcoming edition will continue the league's role in bringing leading international and Indian women cricketers together. The franchises will aim to build balanced combinations for the tournament, with overseas recruitment and domestic talent both expected to play important roles in their planning.
Mumbai Indians rope in USA pacer ahead of auction
Tara Norris has moved to Mumbai Indians from UP Warriorz through a trade ahead of WPL 2027. The left-arm seamer first made her mark in the competition while playing for Delhi Capitals during the inaugural season in 2023.
Tara Norris became the first player from an Associate nation to be selected at the inaugural WPL auction. She also made history during the opening edition by recording the tournament's first five-wicket haul, taking 5/29 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Her performance helped establish her as a notable bowling option in the league.
The American pacer will now look to make an impact for Mumbai Indians, who have regularly competed for the title since the competition began. Her left-arm angle offers a different option within the bowling attack, while her experience in the WPL could help her settle into the squad ahead of the new season.
