Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) enter the 2025 mega auction in Jeddah with a modest INR 45 crore budget after having prioritized retaining their Indian core. Jasprit Bumrah leads the list of retained players at INR 18 crore, followed by Suryakumar Yadav and new captain Hardik Pandya, both at INR 16.35 crore.

Former captain Rohit Sharma has retained for INR 16.30 crore while rising star Tilak Varma rounded out the list at INR 8 crore.

The decision to retain their core meant letting go of key players including wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan whose dip in form raised eyebrows. With 20 squad slots to fill, including eight overseas players MI will face tough decisions at the auction table.

The team’s key needs include a dependable wicketkeeper to replace Kishan, a frontline overseas pacer to support Bumrah, middle-order finishers, and experienced spinners. Historically, MI has been known for nurturing young talent like Tilak Varma.

The franchise has emphasized the importance of retaining the core and for them, team chemistry is key, and believe in building through smart auction strategies.

Former MI stars like Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult who contributed to the team’s 2020 title win could be on their radar for a return.
