Mumbai Indians' celebratory post after Tilak Varma's match-winning innings against the Punjab Kings looked like a sly dig on the PBKS paceman Arshdeep Singh.
The Mumbai Indians are currently at the bottom ninth of the points table and are eliminated from the contest. Despite having played twelve matches this season, they have just four wins and are only looking to earn some respect in the points table.
Jasprit Bumrah led the Mumbai Indians in Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya's absence, and in his first match as the skipper, he excelled in the role as the team ended another losing streak against one of the strongest oppositions of the season.
Arshdeep Singh's 'andhera jibe' at Tilak Varma
The Mumbai Indians' latest post seems like a jibe at Arshdeep Singh's former Snapchat video on Tilak Varma's complexion. After the video went viral on social media, several fans claimed that the MI team should take actions against the humiliation of their star.
In the clip the PBKS pacer had claimed in a light-hearted exchange with the Mumbai Indians star boy Tilak and joked about his complexion, where he teased him, calling him 'andhera' while referring to his teammate Naman Dhir as the real 'Noor' from Punjab.
The video of Arshdeep posted was played with the song Channa Mereya on the line, and 'Andhera tera main le liya' was the line highlighted from the song.
Indian spinner demands ban on Arshdeep Singh
The matter also drew the attention of former spinner and commentator Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, who said the BCCI should act against Arshdeep Singh. The cricketer was, anyway, sensitive on the topic of racism, as he had struggled with those issues in his own playing career.
"I told you guys. Tilak can’t say anything now, as he is in the early part of his career. But the BCCI, with this proof, can take action," Sivaramakrishnan said.
Tilak's promising knock took Mumbai Indians over the line for
Punjab Kings posted 200/8 after being asked to bat first in Match 58 of IPL 2026. Prabhsimran Singh led the innings with 57 off 32 balls. His knock gave PBKS the platform for a strong total. However, Punjab lost momentum in the middle and death overs. Shardul Thakur struck repeatedly and finished with 4/39. His spell kept the Mumbai Indians in the contest.
Mumbai dramatically chased 201 and reached 205/4 in 19.5 overs. Ryan Rickelton gave MI a flying start with 48 off 23 balls. The chase stayed alive despite wickets in the middle overs. Will Jacks then produced a crucial late cameo. He scored 25 not out off 10 balls. MI completed the chase with one ball remaining. The win also gave Jasprit Bumrah victory in his first match as MI captain.
Tilak Varma was the hero with an unbeaten 75 off 33 balls. His innings included six fours and six sixes. Tilak reached his fifty from 25 balls and controlled the final phase. He attacked Punjab’s bowlers under pressure and kept MI ahead in the chase. Tilak finished the match with a six. His knock earned him the Player of the Match award. It also underlined his growing reputation as a finisher
