Mumbai Cricket Association has announced the squad for the Irani Cup 2024 match against the Rest of India. Veteran Ajinkya Rahane, who led the team to the Ranji Trophy win, will be captaining the team in the upcoming game.

The Irani Cup 2024 match will be played between winners of the Ranji Trophy Mumbai and the Rest of India. The match will be played from 1st October to 5th October at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Ajinkya Rahane, who didn't feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024, will be captaining the team while Siddhesh Lad is back in the squad.

Indian players Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, and Suryakumar Yadav weren't named but the MCA mentioned if released from Indian duties, Dube and Sarfaraz would join the team. Also, BCCI confirmed that Sarfaraz will be released for the competition if he is not picked for the 2nd Test.

"Sarfaraz Khan who has been retained in the Team India squad for the 2nd Test, will be released to represent the Mumbai team subject to him not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur," the Board of Control for Cricket in India said in an official media release.

Prithvi Shaw, who has been plying his trade in the County Championship, will also be featuring in the squad. Shreyas Iyer, who has been under scanner for his poor outings in red-ball cricket, has also been included in the team for the Irani Cup 2024-25 match against the Rest of India.

The game will be extremely important for Prithvi Shaw and Shreyas Iyer both. They would be eyeing a return to the India National Cricket Team, and a strong domestic season would make their case strong. They both have proved themselves on the international stage and would be eager to make an impact in the game.

Young Musheer Khan, who set the stage on fire in the Duleep Trophy 2024, also cut into the team, while Shardul Thakur will be returning to red-ball cricket as well. He would be in plans of the Indian Team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he has been performing the role of bowling all-rounder in the national team in overseas Test.

Hardik Tamore and Sidhaant Addhatrao are the two wicketkeeper in the team. Tanush Kotian and Shams Mulani also are on the team. They have been touted as the brother of destruction for the Mumbai team and will be important for their team in the Irani Cup match against the Rest of India.
