Mumbai's promising batter Musheer Khan has been sidelined due to a serious road accident that occurred while he was en route to Lucknow with his father, Noushad Khan. He suffered a fracture during the accident, and it eventually ruled him out of the upcoming Iran Cup 2024.
Musheer was set to represent Mumbai in the highly anticipated Irani Cup 2024 against the Rest of India, starting on October 1 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

This unfortunate incident not only derails Musheer Khan's immediate plans but also casts doubt on his participation in the initial matches of the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The young cricketer had recently made headlines in the Duleep Trophy 2024, where he dazzled fans with a remarkable 181 in the opening match against India A.
However, the emerging star struggled to maintain his form in subsequent games in the tournament. While the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has yet to officially confirm the details of Musheer's injury, the announcement of his replacement for the Irani Cup 2024 is expected soon.
Meanwhile, sources reveal that Musheer Khan was traveling from his hometown of Azamgarh to join the Mumbai squad when the accident occurred, raising concerns over the safety of athletes on the road.
'The cause of the accident is not clear yet'
A source was quoted as saying by TOI: “He didn’t travel with the Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably traveling from his native place, Azamgarh, with his father, to Lucknow when the accident took place.”
On the other hand, the Sports Tak report claimed, “So far, the cause of the accident is not clear. The car flipped on the road four to five times, which resulted in Musheer's serious injury.”
Musheer Khan first made headlines with his performance in the Under-19 World Cup 2024. He then played a key role in Mumbai securing the Ranji Trophy title earlier this year. Since his first-class debut in late 2022, Musheer has made a significant impact on the field, playing nine matches and amassing 716 runs at an impressive average of 51.14.
Musheer Khan hit three centuries, with two of those coming during the crucial knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy. The Indian selectors were eager to bring Musheer into the India A squad for the upcoming tour of Australia. However, the details regarding the severity of his fracture are still unclear, and it looks unlikely that he will be able to travel to Australia this time.
On the other hand, Musheer’s elder brother Sarfaraz Khan was named in India’s Test squad for the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. However, Sarfaraz didn’t get the chance in both matches, with KL Rahul getting the opportunity against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the squads for the Irani Cup have already been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Rest of India squad will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Abhimanyu Easwaran will be his deputy. On the other hand, Ajinkya Rahane will be leading the Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai, and the team consists of several star players.
