Musheer Khan, Uday Saharan among 8 players shortlisted by ICC for the U19 World Cup Player of the Tournament

International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday (9th February) shortlisted 8 players for the U19 World Cup Player of the Tournament. The list features three players from India, two from South Africa, and one each from the West Indies, Australia, and Pakistan.

From India, the ICC has picked Musheer Khan, Uday Saharan, and Saumy Pandey. The trio is one of the main reasons behind the team’s dominance in the tournament reaching the final of the event with no losses under their belt.

Musheer Khan has oozed his class and has piled up 338 runs at an average of 67.60. He is the only batter in the tournament who has slammed two centuries with the best of 131, which came against New Zealand. Apart from that he also has picked wickets and has helped the team win.

India captain Uday Saharan is also picked as one of the candidates because of his heroics in the tournament. He has scored 389 runs at an average of 64.83. The main highlight of his career was the match-winning 81 in the semi-final against South Africa. The team was under pressure and he stood tall and guided them to the famous win to book the berth in the final along with Sachin Dhas, who played a staggering innings.

Saumy Pandey has picked 17 wickets at 8.47 and at an economy of 2.44, which is the best of all bowlers at the tournament with more than five wickets. He also has picked three four-wicket hauls in the tournament. All three players will be hoping to add more to their tally as they will be playing one more game i.e. final against Australia.

South Africa pacer Kwena Maphaka and Steve Stolk are the two nominees from the Proteas. The fast bowler has picked 21 wickets, which is the most by any pacer, and is one wicket away from setting the record for most wickets in the tournament. Whereas batter has amassed 228 at an average of 38.

Australia captain Hugh Weilbgen also has made cut into the U19 World Cup Player of the Tournament list. The batter has slammed 256 runs at an average of 51.2. He also has one century in the tournament that came against England.

West Indies batter Jewel Andrew was shortlisted because of his heroics with bat. He has mustered 207 runs at an average of 69 with the best of 130 that came against South Africa. He will have an opportunity to add more to his tally as he will be playing in the final.

Pakistan’s pace spearhead Ubaid Shah also features in the list. He bagged 18 wickets in the tournament at an average of 12.38. He also picked one five-wicket haul that came against Bangladesh and helped the team reach the semi-final.
