Former Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has made a massive statement on who will break his record of 800 Test wickets. He said that only Nathan Lyon has the chance to break the record while there is no chance for others to take this many wickets.

Former Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is still the most successful bowler in the history of Test cricket. Even though he retired from the longest format of the game in 2010, his record of 800 wickets in the format is still intact, and no one is close to it as well.

Muttiah Muralitharan ended his career with 800 wickets at an average of 22.7

Muralitharan played 133 Tests in his career, and he no doubt was the biggest match-winner for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. His ability to run through the batting lineups of the opposition was staggering as he single-handedly won many games for Sri Lanka.

Muralitharan ended his career with 800 wickets at an average of 22.7 to go with 67 five-wicket hauls and 22 ten-wicket hauls. Currently, there is no one who is close to his record, and it is likely that his record will remain unbroken and he will stay at the top.

England's James Anderson was the threat to his record but the pacer was forced to retire by the England management last summer. The fast bowler ended with 704 wickets and is behind Late Shane Warne, who has 708 wickets in the longest format of the game.

But the way Test cricket is going, I don't know because somebody (from) this generation has to break it - Muttiah Muralitharan

Muralitharan was asked about his record, to which he said that no one will break his record from the coming generation, adding that young players don't play enough Test cricket. Speaking to Code Sports, he said:

"Records are meant to be broken. But the way Test cricket is going, I don't know because somebody (from) this generation has to break it. The coming generation never will break it because they won't play enough Test cricket."

Muttiah Muralitharan gives Nathan Lyon a chance to break his record

Muttiah Muralitharan also said that if there is anyone who has the chance to break his record, it will be Australia National Cricket Team spinner Nathan Lyon.

Nathan Lyon has been one of the best spinners that the Australia National Cricket Team have produced. The off-spinner is currently at 546 wickets and with the way he is going, it's fair to say that he might have a chance to go past Muttiah Muralitharan.

Nathan Lyon is currently playing for Australia in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. He played a massive role for the team in the first game as they won the match by a massive margin at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.
