Multiple reports and claims across social media claimed that Bangladesh National Cricket Team fast bowler Nahis Rana could play in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL).
But the chances started to look slim as there was no request for the No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and without the NOC, no one is allowed to take part in any overseas league.
No request for an NOC from Nahid Rana
According to a Cricbuzz report, the cricketer, Rana, himself did not apply for the clearance from the Bangladesh Cricket Board. It was previously reported that multiple BBL franchises, including the Adelaide Strikers and a Melbourne-based franchise, were interested in signing the Bangladesh speed star. However, things did not turn out in reality.
"We are also seeing on different platforms that some BBL franchises are eager to secure Rana, but we have not received any official letter for an NOC from him. If he submits it, the board will decide whether he will get the NOC, but chances are very slim for him to get the NOC because we have international commitments," a source told the cricket news website.
BCB to manage Nahid Rana's workload
Ahead of the BBL 2026-26, which will run from December 12 to January 26, the workload of Nahid Rana remains under the consideration of BCB. Because of an injury, the emerging pace bowler, who has made his name for generating sheer pace with controlled line and length, missed the two-match Test series against Australia.
Without Nahid Rana in the team, the Bangladesh cricket team managed to pull out an historic Test match win in Durban, but soon got a reality check from the home team in the next match. In the lead-up to the 2027 ODI World Cup, BCB wants to ensure the fitness of their key players. It is hard to tell whether the board could approve a NOC if Rana wished to play in the Big Bash League.
"He (Rana) just recovered from an injury, and we need to keep an eye on that as well because his fitness and workload are one of our top priorities,” the official added.
Bangladesh to tour South Africa ahead of 2027 ODI World Cup
Nahid Rana, 23, returned to bowling after overcoming the injury setback earlier this week, but is set to miss the upcoming Asian Games matches for the Bangladesh cricket team in Japan. After the conclusion of the multi-team tournament, the Tiger Brigade is set to back Afghanistan and the West Indies in back-to-back series.
The cricket board is expecting to field Nahid Rana during their series against Afghanistan. Following the two-match Test series against West Indies at home, the Bangladesh cricket team will travel to South Africa for a full-fledged tour.
Ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, the bilateral series will help the Asian teams in their preparations. The team will expect Nahid Rana to play against the Proteas.
