Najmul Hossain Shanto Appointed As Bangladesh Skipper For 3rd ODI Against New Zealand

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as the captain of Bangladesh for the 3rd and final ODI against New Zealand. Najmul Hossain Shanto has become the 16th player to lead Bangladesh in ODIs.
The move comes after stand-in skipper Litton Das requested to be rested for the BAN vs NZ 3rd ODI. Litton Das led the team in the 2nd ODI which Bangladesh lost by 86 runs. Earlier, the opening ODI was washed out due to rain.
Najmul Hossain Shanto Among Other Key Players Return To The Squad
Najmul Hossain Shanto was not part of the first two games and the board has called him back for the 3rd ODI against New Zealand. Some other key players like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam also return to the squad for the final ODI clash against New Zealand. These players were given rest for a week.
BAN vs NZ 3rd ODI is set to take place on Tuesday, September 26. The venue of the encounter is Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. New Zealand leads the series 1-0 with one more game to go. Hence, Bangladesh needs to win the final game to evade a series-defeat on home soil.

Bangladesh Lost 2nd ODI To New Zealand
In the 2nd ODI, New Zealand won by 86 runs. Batting first, the visitors piled up 254-10 on the scoreboard with a half-century by Tom Blundell (68). Later, Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi hunted a stunning six-wicket haul to bundle out Bangladesh for just 168 runs.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh is also expected to name their squad for World Cup after BAN vs NZ series. Shakib Al Hasan is expected to lead the team in the tournament. Mahmudullah, who scored a valiant 49 runs in the 2nd ODI vs New Zealand, is expected to get a place in the squad. He was dropped from the Asia Cup 2023 squad.
