As the USA-led ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 ended on June 12, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Eisenhower Park, Long Island, New York, prepares for its next chapter, and the work on it has already begun.

Despite initial doubts about pitch quality and a series of low-scoring matches, the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium has earned its place in cricket history by hosting seven World Cup games, including the high-profile clash between India and Pakistan.

The stadium hosted its final T20 World Cup 2024 game on Wednesday, when the hosts, the USA faced off against India. This match marked the end of a remarkable journey for the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, which was constructed in just five months.

Nassau County International Cricket Stadium's final days arrive amidst T20 World Cup 2024 drama

This stadium's development in just 106 days showed the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) commitment to extend the game in the United States. However, the ICC's ambitious project aimed at promoting cricket in the USA is all set to be dismantled.

As the next stage of the tournament, 'Super 8s', will be completely played in the Caribbean islands, leading up to the final on June 29 in Barbados, Eisenhower Park, which was transformed into a secure and bustling venue for the T20 World Cup 024 matches, will soon return to its original state.

An ICC official confirmed that the dismantling work of the pop-up stadium commenced immediately after the conclusion of the India versus USA match, and this process is expected to take approximately six weeks. This marked the end of Nassau County International Cricket Stadium's brief but significant journey.

The strict security measures and restricted access were in place in Eisenhower Park during the T20 World Cup 2024 matches, and now they will be lifted, restoring free public access to its grassy, muddy, and dusty surfaces.

In a video shared by ANI on social media, bulldozers were seen parked at the venue, ready to demolish the temporary stadium that had a capacity of 34,000 spectators.

ICC to relocate the drop-in pitches from New York

Meanwhile, the future of the pitches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium remains uncertain. An ICC official revealed that if the Nassau County authorities choose to maintain the pitches, they can keep them.

Otherwise, the ICC will relocate the drop-in pitches, which were prepared in Florida with expertise from South Australia, to another location where they will be needed. However, the ICC official said that the outfield will stay in its current state.

There were initial plans to host several Major League Cricket (MLC) games at the stadium, but the MLC authorities and their franchises were not interested in this option. It is being said that a dedicated cricket stadium may be built in the future, but not at Eisenhower Park.

Notably, New York is the base for the Mumbai Indians’ child franchise MI NY in the MLC, and the owner of the team, Neeta Ambani, is expected to construct a new stadium soon here.
