Nasser Hussain declares Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rise greater than Sachin Tendulkar’s emergence

Hussain said that just like Sachin Tendulkar burst onto the scene as a teenager and left the cricket world gaga over him, Vaibhav's fearless strokeplay and composure made the same impact. Hussain also compared Suryavanshi’s emergence to Sachin Tendulkar’s early rise.

Even the former England captain felt that Vaibhav's emergence surpassed the early spark shown by a young Sachin Tendulkar, who is regarded as one of the all-time greats.

Nasser Hussain said on the Sky Sports Cricket podcast, “It was absolutely unbelievable. Things like this still happen in India. You go back to watching the great Sachin Tendulkar emerging onto the scene, but this even surpasses that. It is unbelievable for a 14-year-old.

That's what everyone is saying... what was I doing when I was 14! I was in U15, trying to score some runs. And he's scoring a hundred against some of the best bowlers in the world in 35 deliveries, looking like that's what he's meant to be doing.”

Meanwhile, Nasser Hussain praised the depth of talent in Indian cricket and pointed out how the IPL is helping uncover stars from lesser-known regions. He was really happy that a young talent like Vaibhav Suryavanshi is coming from Bihar and reckoned that the young gun could have a great future to bring his state onto the map in terms of producing an international star.

'India's strength is in their depth'

He signed off by saying, “It's also the story of Indian cricket. The strength is in their depth. Yet another young domestic player to get a hundred. It's also about how the IPL is growing in parts of India, which historically haven't produced great players. He's from the state of Bihar, which hasn't produced great international cricketers. He looks like he has a great future for himself.”

Notably, Vaibhav was signed by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.1 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction after his impressive performances in domestic cricket. The young batter helped the Indian team to reach the U19 World Cup final last year. He will be back in action on May 1, when the Royals face Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians in a crucial IPL 2025 encounter.
