India vs Pakistan 2026 T20 World Cup row continues, as former players and pundits keep sharing their views on Pakistan’s stance of boycotting the match on 15th February. Former England captain Nasser Hussain has commented on the ongoing rift between the two giant cricketing nations. He has slammed the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Speaking on a Sky Sports podcast with his former teammate Michael Atherton, he questioned the apex body for supporting the powerful and influential boards, especially the BCCI. He also talked about the disparity in world cricket. The comments come after the BCCI terminated Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s contract with his Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders, which led to the chaos.
Nasser Hussain questions ICC's integrity
After Mustafizur’s termination, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided not to travel to India, citing security reasons; however, their request was not accepted, and despite BCB not changing their stance, they were removed from the World Cup, with Scotland replacing them. To show support Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to boycott the match against India, which led to the rise of the new India-Pakistan controversy.
Nasser Hussain questioned the integrity and whether the whole of the ICC body would have agreed on the matter if India had been the team, citing government restrictions or security concerns, and not willing to travel to any other country, had they been sanctioned or fined.
'The only question all sides ask for is consistency'- Nasser Hussain
Speaking on the podcast, Nasser Hussain said, “If India, a month before a tournament, said ‘our government does not want us to play in a country for a World Cup’, would the ICC have been so firm and said, ‘You know the rules, bad luck, we’re knocking you out?’”
“The only question all sides ask for is consistency. Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India must be treated the same. Yes, India fans may say, ‘Cry more, we have the money!’ But with power comes responsibility. Constantly knocking Bangladesh or Pakistan diminishes their cricket. That’s why the great games between India and Pakistan or India and Bangladesh have become one-sided over time.”
This could upset some Indian fans, but Nasser Hussain’s comments hit hard.

He exposed the ICC’s clear double standards favoring the BCCI, questioning if the same tough rules would apply if India refused to play somewhere over government concerns.

Nasser Hussain concluded saying that he is happy that the Bangladesh Cricket Board actually took a stand for their players, and supported them, "I actually quite like Bangladesh sticking to their guns, standing up for their players. I quite like Pakistan sticking up for Bangladesh as well. At some stage, someone should say, enough with this politics, can we just get back to playing cricket."
Najam Sethi does not favour the 'Big Three Model'
Previously, ex-PCB chairman Najam Sethi also shared his views on BCCI influencing decisions in world cricket and also mentioned the controversial “Big Three” model, which gave power to India, Australia, and England.
India vs Pakistan has always been the main attraction in any ICC events, and if the game falls out, ICC has to bear a huge loss, and Pakistan also has to suffer huge fines and sanctions. Pakistan can also be banned from playing cricket.
