Legendary Sri Lankan opener and one of the greatest-ever all-rounders to have played white-ball cricket, Sanath Jayasuriya has expressed his disappointment after the national side slipped to an embarrassing series defeat against Bangladesh in the ongoing three-match rubber.
This is the first time that Sri Lanka has ever lost back-to-back ODIs against Bangladesh and it also happens to be the first instance of them losing a bilateral ODI series against Bangladesh.

And, it’s natural for someone like Sanath Jayasuriya, who played in an era where Sri Lankan Cricket was its absolute peak, to feel disgruntled.
Taking to his official Twitter account, the former blistering opener and 1996 World Cup-winner, Sanath Jayasuriya urged the Kusal Perera-led unit to fight till the last and save the national pride.
“As a past player and captain it’s very difficult for me to come to terms with the first series loss to Bangladesh. National pride is at stake boys fight to the last,” wrote Sanath Jayasuriya.

Coming back to the 2nd ODI, it was a similar script for Sri Lanka as they looked completely inept against a rampaging Bangladesh unit.
After Mushfiqur Rahim’s brilliant ton (125 off 127 balls) had helped Bangladesh to post 246, Sri Lanka never looked like chasing down the target as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

They eventually finished at 9/141 in 40 overs in a rain-affected encounter to hand the home side a comprehensive 103-run win.
The 103-run win has not only helped Bangladesh claim the series but has also propelled them to the top spot in the ICC ODI Super League standings.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, is at the 12th spot, having lost each of its five fixtures. Moreover, they have -2 points against their name and with their upcoming ODI assignments scheduled against England and India, their road towards automatic qualification for the 50-over World Cup is getting extremely tricky with every defeat.
