Nazmul Hassan steps down as BCB President; this former cricketer takes on the role

In a big development in Bangladesh cricket, Nazmul Hassan has stepped down as the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Hassan stayed on the role of BCB President for a period of 12 years.
Faruque Ahmed, the former Bangladesh cricketer, has taken over the role from Nazmul Hassan. With his appointment, Ahmed also became the first ever international cricketer to take over as BCB President.

Nazmul Hassan had been under huge pressure since the political turmoil started in Bangladesh, which forced their elected Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to leave the country. After the political upheaval, Nazmul Hassan fled the country along with his wife.

Hassan is currently living in London alongwith his wife and is not expected to be back in Bangladesh till the situation becomes normal. He is a Member of Parliament (MP) in Bangladesh's parliament from Sheikh Hasina's party Awami League.
A few days ago, it was reported that Nazmul Hassan has agreed to step down from his role of BCB president. He was currently serving his fourth term as BCB president. However, the current political situation in the country forced him to resign.
Along with Hassan, a few BCB members who had the backing of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, are also believed to be hiding since August 5, when the political situation started worsening in Bangladesh.
Faruque Ahmed appointed new BCB President
Meanwhile, Faruque Ahmed has been appointed as the new BCB president. The former batter has played seven ODIs for Bangladesh and scored 105 runs at an average of 15. He has also scored one fifty in his international career.
Despite not having a great record in international cricket, Faruque Ahmed 5 first-class and 21 List A games for Bangladesh. In first-class cricket, he scored 258 runs at an average of 36.58. In List A cricket, the 58-year-old scored 437 runs at an average of 21.85 with a best of 102*.

Faruque Ahmed's appointment has started a new era in Bangladesh cricket after Nazmul Hassan's 12-year-old era came to an end. During his tenure, Hassan faced several allegations on a consistent basis after he was found to be revealing the dressing room secrets in front of the media.
Being the most powerful man in Bangladesh cricket, he also took disciplinary actions against star Bangladesh players like Shakib Al Hasan after the allrounder threatened to quit ODIs and Tests. Nazmul Hassan was also criticized at times for putting too much pressure on the players when they were injured.
