The Cricket Netherlands took an unconventional approach to address their team’s crushing loss to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023. The Cricket Netherlands playfully trolled their own players following a historic defeat by a margin of 309 runs in their most recent match.
Australia achieved a significant milestone after securing their third consecutive victory during the World Cup in Delhi on October 25. They recorded the largest margin of victory by runs in World Cup history, surpassing their own previous record (275) from the 2015 edition.
Back On Earth After Record Defeat – The Cricket Netherlands
After the defeat against Australia, Cricket Netherlands took to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) to troll their own players, describing it as ‘back on earth’.
“The Netherlands back on earth after record defeat against Australia The six-time world champion showed no compassion for captain Scott Edwards’ men, winning by a record margin of 309 runs,” Cricket Netherlands tweeted.
Captain Pat Cummins chose to bat first, and his team put up a huge total of 399/8 in 50 overs. David Warner scored a century, while Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne added half-centuries. Glenn Maxwell recorded the fastest century in ODI World Cup history.
In response, the Netherlands struggled and bowled out just 90 runs in 21 overs. Leg spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets in three overs, and Mitchell Marsh bagged two wickets. Glenn Maxwell was named Player of the Match for his incredible 40-ball century knock.

We Should Have Been Better – Scott Edwards
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards acknowledged Australia’s quality and expressed disappointment with their own performance. He credited the Australian team and noted the challenge of facing a strong opponent.
“They are a quality side, we should have been better today. Execution (what could have been done better with ball). You miss by fractions and you get out of the park. Full credit to the Aussies. We got back in a bit there with 10 overs to go. Maxwell got going and we couldn’t stop him,” Edwards said.
“Pretty nice wicket here and ball travels so quickly. Those two (opening batters) were awesome for us for the last 18 months and one of the reasons why we are here so we back them all the way. Just touch on things to improve and move on quickly from this and prepare ourselves for the next game.”
