Biratnagar Super Kings, on Friday (January 6), defeated Far West United by 3 runs to all but dump the latter out of the ongoing Nepal T20 League 2022/23. Chasing 148 to keep their slim hopes of progressing ahead alive, United finished on 144 for 9.

Keon Joseph defended 5 runs in the final over to guide the Super Kings to a thrilling win over United. After Umair Ali smashed a six on the final ball of the 19th over, United needed 6 runs from the final over to win the game.

Joseph, however, bowled a brilliant over, conceding just two to take his team over the finishing line. He also picked up a wicket on the final ball of the over when United needed 4.

Earlier in the innings, skipper Hashmatullah Shahid once again stood tall with the bat but found very little support from the other end. He scored 58 off 46 balls while opening the innings to keep his team in the hunt. Apart from him, no other player in the top 7 could even cross the 10-run mark.

The game looked all but over for United when Shahidi departed in the 17th over. However, Umair Ali’s fine cameo of 23 runs from just 12 balls kept United in the chase before they eventually failed to cross the finishing line.

Biratnagar Super Kings’ innings:

Earlier in the match, Biratnagar Super Kings won the toss and elected to bat first in the crucial encounter. They, however, could not justify the decision at the beginning as they were off to a disastrous start.

Both of their openers – Gauranshu Sharma (1) and Pradeep Airee (3) departed cheaply.  Skipper Rohit Paudel and Hussain Talat then steadied the ship with a 66-run stand before the former departed for 21.

But unlike Paudel, Talat made the most of the start and went on to score a fifty to help his team post a fighting total. Towards the end of the innings, Bibek Yadav (35* off 20) played a fine unbeaten cameo to take the Super Kings closer to the 150-run mark. For United, Umair Ali was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 for 15.
