Biratnagar Super Kings, on Saturday (January 7), beat Kathmandu Knights by 7 wickets in their last league game to book their place in the playoffs of the Nepal T20 League 2022/23.

The win was Super Kings’ third in a row while the defeat was the Knights’ third in a row. Thanks to the win, the Super Kings finished the league stage with 5 wins from 10 games. The Knights, on the other hand, are still likely to progress to the playoffs after finishing the league stage with 4 wins and 6 defeats.

Chasing 155, the Super Kings crossed the finishing line with utmost ease in the 19th over. Skipper Rohit Paudel led from the very front, scoring 66 before being run out. Opener Gauranshu Sharma also scored an unbeaten fifty as the Super Kings registered a crucial win.

The Super Kings were off to a shaky start as Arjun Saud (10) departed cheaply. But from thereon, they were in command of the chase throughout. Sharma and Paudel all but sealed the fate of the game by sharing a 94-run stand. Hussain Talat’s cameo of 21 off 12 balls further made things easier for the Super Kings. In the end, they crossed the line with 8 balls remaining.

Kathmandu Knights’ innings:

Earlier in the game, Kathmandu Knights scored 154 for 6 in 20 overs after their skipper Gyanendra Malla won the toss and elected to bat first. The Knights were off to a poor start as the likes of Sunam Gautam (8) and Lokesh Bam (0) fell cheaply.

On the other hand, Santosh Karki (34) and Alex Blake (34) got the starts but they failed to convert them into big scores.  As a result, the Knights lost wickets at crucial junctures and were reeling at 117 for 6 after the 17th over.

The 150-run mark was looking untouchable at that moment. However, Basir Ahamad (17* off 8 balls) and Malla (22* off 13 balls) played fine cameos to guide their team to a good total. For the Super Kings, Raj Nannan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 14.
