New Zealand will be looking to book their spot in the final of the ongoing ODI tri-series when they lock horns against South Africa in the second game of the series. The crucial game is scheduled to take place on Monday (February 10) at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Earlier this week, New Zealand began their campaign in the series with a thumping 78-run win over hosts Pakistan. A win over South Africa will make them the first team to qualify for the final. Even if New Zealand lose the game, they will be in contention for a place in the final although they won't have their fate in their hands anymore.
With form on their side, the Black Caps will be keen to win against South Africa and qualify for the final. In the game against Pakistan, New Zealand posted 330/6 in 50 overs while batting first. Glenn Phillips scored an unbeaten century while Daryl Mitchell and Kane Williamson scored half-centuries.
In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 252 runs with Matt Henry and captain Mitchell Santner taking three wickets each. With New Zealand now eyeing their second consecutive win in the series, we are taking a look at the New Zealand Playing 11.
New Zealand Playing 11 vs South Africa - 2nd ODI, Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2025:
Openers: Devon Conway, Will Young
New Zealand are likely to have a new opening pair for the upcoming game. Rachin Ravindra is expected to make way for Devon Conway for the game after suffering a painful blow on his forehead. He was hit on his forehead by the ball while attempting a catch and was left bloodied.
Ravindra had to walk off the field and with the Champions Trophy not very far away, New Zealand are unlikely to take any risk. In his place, Conway is expected to play against South Africa. The other opener in the New Zealand Playing 11 is set to be Will Young. He scored just 4 runs in the first game and will be keen to do well against the Proteas.
Middle-order batsmen and allrounders: Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c)
Kane Williamson started his tri-series campaign with a 58-run knock and will be eyeing another good outing with the bat. Daryl Mitchell had an impressive outing as well. The right-handed batsman scored 81 runs against Pakistan and will look to capitalize on his form against South Africa.
While most of New Zealand's batters fared well against Pakistan, Tom Latham had a disappointing outing. The wicketkeeper-batsman was out for a duck and will look to turn things around in the forthcoming contest.
Glenn Phillips was the pick of the batters in the last game. The all-rounder scored a scintillating hundred to guide his team to a big total. He scored an unbeaten 106 runs off just 74 balls with the help of 6 fours and 7 sixes.
Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner are expected to be the two all-rounders in the New Zealand Playing 11. Both the spinners impressed with the ball and put New Zealand in the driver's seat with their bowling performance. Captain Santner picked up 3 wickets while Bracewell picked up 2. Bracewell also scored 31 runs off 23 balls while Santner scored an unbeaten 8.
Bowlers: Matt Henry, Ben Sears, William ORourke
With Lockie Ferguson doubtful for the entire series due to a hamstring injury, New Zealand are unlikely to tinker with their bowling lineup. Matt Henry, Ben Sears, and William ORourke are expected to be named in the New Zealand Playing 11 once again. The New Zealand pacers struggled to make an impact with the new ball against Pakistan and will be eyeing a better display against South Africa.
