The New Zealand cricket team finds another high-flying fielder after Glenn Phillips and Daryl Mitchell. It is Nick Kelly who mesmerized the cricket fans across the globe with his fantastic fielding work against South Africa in a T20I match on March 25 at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
Today, New Zealand and South Africa were up against each other for the fifth of the five-match T20I series. It was a series decider as both of the teams had two wins each before the fifth game. In the must-win match, the emerging New Zealand cricketer, Nick Kelly, took a masterful catch to dismiss South Africa batter, Rubin Hermann.
Nick Kelly covers the distance between mid off and mid on to take the catch
In the first innings of the match, when South Africa was looking to claim a 200-plus target with their set batters in the form of Rubin Hermann and Connor Esterhuizen, the Kiwi flew to dent their plan.
On the first delivery of the 16th over of the first innings, South Africa pacer Benjamin Sears delivers a back-of-the-length delivery to Hermann. The Protea batter rocked on his back foot and tried to play a pull shot. He swung the bat, but the connection was not right. The ball went to fly somewhere near the mid on the cordon.
Nick Kelly, who was posted in the middle of the area, assumed the ball's path of travel and started to run towards the offside area. Kelly ran from mid off to mid on and dove in front to grab the ball. He stretched his left hand in the air to take a scorching catch. An absolute stunner from Nick Kelly to send Rubin Hermann back in the dugout. The batter departed for 39 runs in 31 balls.

The effort went in vain as New Zealand lost to South Africa
Kelly's effort went in vain as New Zealand lost the match, as well as the series, as they failed to chase down the target of 188 in the second innings. South Africa went to bat first and scored 187 runs for 4 in 20 overs. Connor Esterhuizen was the highest scorer with 75 in 33 balls.
The Blackcaps never looked comfortable in the run chase as they lost wickets in regular intervals. New Zealand managed to score only 154 runs in reply in 20 overs, in exchange for 8 wickets. Kelly, who accomplished a stunning catch in the first innings, scored 14 runs off 18, smashing only one boundary.
Who is Nick Kelly?
Keeping an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be in 2028, both of the teams have formed their teams with a bunch of talent. Kelly was one of the emerging talents who played for New Zealand. The 32-year-old made disappointing outings for the team, as the left-handed batter scored 43 runs in total in 4 T20Is.
