Rahmanullah Gurbaz produced one of the finest ODI innings of his career during the first ODI between India and Afghanistan at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday, June 13. The Afghanistan opener launched a brutal assault on the Indian bowling attack and single-handedly powered his team to a strong position after India opted to field first.
With wickets falling around him, Rahmanullah Gurbaz kept the scoreboard moving at a remarkable pace. The right-hander mixed timing with power, punishing anything remotely loose and bringing up a record-breaking hundred against India. However, just when it looked like he would bat deep into the innings, Nitish Kumar Reddy came up with a moment of brilliance to end the carnage.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz hits majestic century vs India
Gurbaz was at his destructive best from the outset and never allowed the Indian bowlers to settle. Rahmanullah Gurbaz raced to his century in just 48 balls, registering the fastest ODI hundred for Afghanistan and the second-fastest ODI century ever scored against India.
The wicketkeeper-batter smashed eight fours and eight sixes during his sensational knock of 102 off just 51 balls at a staggering strike rate of 200.00. His innings helped Afghanistan recover from early setbacks and kept India under pressure throughout the first half of the innings.
The hundred was Gurbaz's ninth ODI century, extending his lead as Afghanistan's most successful century-maker in the format. Ibrahim Zadran and Mohammad Shahzad are next on the list with six ODI hundreds each.
Gurbaz also strengthened his remarkable conversion rate in ODI cricket. Among batters with at least seven ODI centuries, his conversion rate from fifties to hundreds now stands at an incredible 56.25%, the best in the history of the format.

India desperately needed a breakthrough as Rahmanullah Gurbaz threatened to take the game away from them. Captain Shubman Gill turned to Nitish Kumar Reddy, and the all-rounder responded with a peach of a delivery.
On the third ball of the 16th over, Reddy fired in a pinpoint inswinging yorker at 134 kph. The ball landed right at the base of middle stump and left Gurbaz with no room to maneuver.
Attempting to dig it out and flick it towards mid-on, Gurbaz opened his stance and bent low, but the ball sneaked under the bat and crashed into the middle stump.
The dismissal ended a breathtaking innings and sparked celebrations in the Indian camp. Gurbaz could only stand and watch as his middle stump was uprooted by one of the best deliveries of the innings.
The wicket came at 142/4, bringing down the curtains on an outstanding knock that had put Afghanistan in command.
