Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally ended their long wait for the Indian Premier League trophy this year. The Kolkata-based outfit won the prestigious trophy after a long gap of ten years.

KKR had not won the IPL since 2014 when Gautam Gambhir led them to their second title. After years of hurt, KKR brought back Gautam Gambhir as a mentor and the move paid off immediately. In his very first season as mentor, the former KKR captain guided the team to its much-awaited third title.

After ending the long 10-year wait for the IPL trophy, KKR were expected to hold a celebratory event at the Eden Gardens. In 2012 and 2014, KKR had celebrated the title wins with the fans at the Eden Gardens. The West Bengal government had also played a big role in the arrangement of the felicitation programme. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present during the event.

However, KKR decided against hosting a celebratory event right after winning the title this year. With the T20 World Cup starting in less than a week's time after the IPL final, KKR might have decided against conducting the event.

Recently, several reports stated that the celebration party would finally take place at the Eden Gardens on July 23. However, RevSportz's Subhayan Chakraborty has reported that no such function would be taking place in Kolkata later this month.

Kolkata Knight Riders' run in IPL 2024:

Talking about KKR's run in IPL 2024, the Kolkata-based outfit enjoyed a stunning campaign. Barring the brief phase in the middle of the tournament where their bowlers struggled to defend the big scores at home, KKR were in control throughout the tournament.

They started their campaign with 3 wins in a row and finished by winning 6 in a row. KKR finished the league stage at the top of the points table for the first time in their history. They finished the league stage with an impressive 20 points and a record net run rate of 1.428.

The three-time champions will be starting a new journey next year as they will be without Gambhir. The former India opener was recently appointed as the head coach of the Indian team.
