The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has announced a 25-member provisional Bengal squad for the upcoming Inter State Senior Men T20 Warm-Up matches.

A total of eight teams will be participating in the tournament. The competition will take place in Puducherry from August 19. The CAB will also take into consideration the players’ performance in the tournament to select the final squad for the Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India’s premier T20 competition for domestic teams.

While Bengal have done well in Ranji Trophy in recent years, their performance in the Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been really disappointing. They have not won the competition since winning it for the first time in the 2010/11 season.

They have not even qualified for the final since then. In the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Bengal’s campaign ended at the quarterfinal stage after a 4-wicket loss to Himachal Pradesh. And to make sure that the team’s fortunes improve in the T20 tournament, the CAB is taking all possible steps to get the players ready for the competition.

Bengal Squad: Manoj Tiwary, Mukesh Kumar missing

The Bengal squad for the Inter-State Senior Men T20 Warm-Up matches were announced earlier this week. And the squad is missing some key names. The most notable who are not named in the team are Manoj Tiwary, Shahbaz Ahmed, and Mukesh Kumar.

Manoj Tiwary recently withdrew his retirement and has decided to play domestic cricket for at least one more year. The veteran batsman, however, has decided to play only in Ranji Trophy. On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar and Shahbaz Ahmed will be a part of the Indian team for the upcoming three-match series against Ireland as well as the Asian Games 2023.

Mukesh Kumar is currently in the Caribbean and made his debut across formats for Team India on the ongoing tour of the West Indies. Abhimanyu Easwaran is likely to lead the team.
