Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra believes Rishabh Pant can be the game-changer in the forthcoming Test series between England and India. India and England will lock horns in five Tests, starting on the 4th of August in Nottingham. Aakash Chopra underlined that Rishabh Pant’s role down the order would be critical.
Rishabh Pant, who started his Test career in England with a six, has been in sensational form in the last few months in Test cricket. After playing an instrumental role in the historic series win in Australia, the 23-year old also had an unforgettable home series against England. The southpaw has a formidable record in red-ball cricket, having smashed 1403 runs in 21 Tests at 43.84 with three centuries and six fifties.
Aakash Chopra revealed that Rishabh Pant takes the game head on no matter the situation, performing as a game-changer. The 43-year old feels that any bowling line-up could be threatening in the English conditions and the tourists could lose their top-order batsmen early.
“No matter what the situation of the match or the amount of stress around, Rishabh Pant is a guy who remains fit and is a game-changer. To be honest, in England no matter how good a batting unit you are, the fact is that the opponents have a more than decent bowling line-up. And, especially in these conditions, India are bound to lose two or three from the top-order early,” Chopra told on his Youtube channel.
His keeping will once again come to the fore: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further stated under pressure, Rishabh Pant’s role would be critical and his keeping has to be equally proficient. The cricketer-turned-commentator also highlighted that Pant’s role would be essential in opting for the reviews too.
“Pressure will definitely be there and this is where Rishabh Pant will be extremely handy. His keeping will once again come to the fore. The way he keeps wickets will be important and now keepers have a key role to play even in deciding DRS reviews,” he added.
