Former India offspinner Harbhajan Singh has lashed out at the selectors for not selecting Yuzvendra Chahal, Abhishek Sharma, and Sanju Samson in the squads for the Sri Lanka tour. While Yuzvendra Chahal and Abhishek Sharma did not get a chance in any of the squads, Sanju Samson has found a place only in the T20I squad.

India will play three T20Is and three ODIs in Sri Lanka against the home team. With India going into a transition phase, the new head coach Gautam Gambhir, and the selectors are looking to build a team for the next cycle.

Harbhajan Singh slams the selectors for ignoring these players

After the announcement of India's squads, Harbhajan Singh was surprised about the non-selection of Yuzvendra Chahal and Abhishek Sharma in the squads. The legendary offspinner also wanted Sanju Samson in India's ODI team but the talented right-hander only found a place in the T20I squad.

"Hard to understand why @yuzi_chahal @IamAbhiSharma4 @IamSanjuSamson are not part of the Indian Team for Sri Lanka 🙄," Harbhajan posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Yuzvendra Chahal and Sanju Samson were part of T20 World Cup 2024 squad

Yuzvendra Chahal's non-selection in the T20I team was a huge surprise. The legspinner was a part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad but did not get a game there as left-arm wrsitspinner Kuldeep Yadav was preferred ahead of him.

With Kuldeep not part of the T20I squad, it was expected that Chahal might get a chance to make a comeback into the Playing XI. But India has preferred the fellow legspinner Ravi Bishnoi instead of Chahal.

Chahal had an excellent IPL 2024, where he picked up 18 wickets in 15 matches and emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker for his team Rajasthan Royals. As a result, he was selected for India's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma scored his maiden century in just his second T20I on the tour of Zimbabwe. Although the left-hander was inconsistent with his run-scoring, Abhishek showed intent in his batting. His ability to make score quick runs and hit big sixes at will makes him a unique player.

But unfortunately, the youngster did not find a place in any of the squads. Abhishek had a fantastic IPL 2024, where he scored 484 runs at a blistering strike rate of 204.21.

Talented wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has found a place in India's T20I squad only. Just like Chahal, Samson was also a part of India's T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad but did not get a game as he was the substitute for Rishabh Pant. He has also found a place in India's T20I squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. Here too, he is the second wicketkeeper in the squad behind Rishabh Pant.

India's tour of Sri Lanka will begin on June 27 at Pallekele, where all the T20Is will be played. The ODI series will take place in Colombo and it will begin on August 2.
