Australia opener Travis Head, who had a beef with former India captain Virat Kohli during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, has finally broken his silence on the matter months after the IPL ended. The two were involved in a feud as they did not shake hands after the customary handshake after the match ended.
During the match between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Virat Kohli refused to shake hands with the left-hander after they had an altercation during the match while Kohli was batting in the game.
"I don't think there's anything to patch over"- Travis Head breaks silence on feud with Virat Kohli
Travis Head, while speaking on Code Sports, did not reveal the whole incident of what discussions he and Kohli had during the match, and that there is no beef between him and Kohli, and that incidents like these are part and parcel of the game.
“I don't think there's anything to patch over,” Head told Code Sports. “That's just that's what it is. That's yeah. No surprises with how the competition went or what went on. So as expected,” he added.
What instigated the feud between Virat Kohli and Travis Head?
While batting first, SRH posted a mammoth target of 256 runs for the current IPL champions. And during the chase, while Kohli was batting, they exchanged some words, with the latter asking the Australia batter to come and bowl in the match.
Virat Kohli got out on 15 runs, and thus Head mocked him by saying Kohli was dismissed before he even had a chance to bowl, which made Kohli very angry during the customary post-match greetings.
While Head stretched his hand out, Virat refused to shake the hand with the Southpaw and ignored him. RCB lost the match by 55 runs as they could only score 200 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
Travis Head shares what her wife faced
After this incident, Travis Head’s wife Jessica Davies faced severe backlash and abuse on social media, and she came out in public to reveal that the situation was emotionally draining and distressing for her and her entire family.
Travis Head also stated the same while speaking on the show, as he downplayed the situation, claiming that dealing with public scrutiny is a normal thing for a professional cricketer, but also revealed that the abuse had an impact on others around him and his family who were not used to receiving such backlash and abuse.
“I think Jessica and I have a great perspective on things. That's the world we live in, and I think she's amazing in how she handles that kind of stuff. It was more the family stuff was built around it, flowing on to other family members who don't particularly see that sort of stuff,” said Head.
“Everyone forgets about it in a few days' time. She handled it extremely well. It's probably handling it with others and what other people's perspective of what things are like,” he added.
