Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar bagged his maiden IPL contract after the most successful franchise in the history of the cash-rich league, Mumbai Indians, claimed his services during the recently-held IPL 2021 Auction.
Arjun Tendulkar, a left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder, was a net bowler for the Mumbai Indians in the last season of the IPL but given the fact that he played just two Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy fixtures for Mumbai, his inclusion has come under the scanner, with his critics hurling accusations of Nepotism.
On Friday, Arjun’s elder sister, Sara Tendulkar, posted a story on her Instagram account, where she congratulated the 21-year-old for the stellar achievement.
”Nobody can take this achievement away from you. It is yours:” Sara Tendulkar wrote on her Instagram story.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Indians Twitter handle has uploaded a video where Arjun can be seen thanking the owners, coaches, and the support staff of the franchise for showing faith in his abilities.
“Since childhood, I have been a die-hard fan of Mumbai Indians. I would like to thank the coaches, owners, and support staff for showing faith in me. I can’t wait to put on the blue and gold (jersey),” Arjun Tendulkar said in a video message.
Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene also backed Arjun Tendulkar’s selection as being driven purely by his skills.
“We’ve looked at it purely on a skill basis. There’s going to be a big tag on his head because of Sachin. But luckily he’s a bowler, not a batsman. I think Sachin will be very proud if he could bowl like Arjun,” Mahela Jayawardene said.
