Nominees For ICC Player Of The Month For Men And Women For July 2022 Announced

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month for July 2022 on August 3, 2022. For the Men’s Player of the Month for July 2022, the nominees are Jonny Bairstow of England, Prabath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka and Gustav McKeon of France.

The winner of the June 2022 ICC Men’s Player of the Month, Jonny Bairstow, started July continuing his brilliant batting as he helped England defeat India in the rescheduled fifth Test against India, playing two aggressive knocks. He scored a century in each innings to win the Player of the Match award.

He first scored 106 to help bail his team out of trouble. In the second innings, Bairstow was unbeaten on 114*, stitching together an incredible stand with Joe Root, as England chased down 378.

He then hit 63 against South Africa in the first ODI and slammed 0 in only 53 deliveries in the first T20I against the Proteas.

The next nominee is Sri Lanka’s newest spin sensation Prabath Jayasuriya. The spinner registered figures of 6/118 and 6/59 as Sri Lanka roared back against Australia in Galle to level the series. Then he dominated against Pakistan as well, picking 5/82 and 4/135 in the first Test.

In the second Test against Pakistan, Jayasuriya clinched his fourth five-wicket haul, as after taking 3/80 in the first innings, he registered figures of 5/117 in the second innings.

The third and final nominee is a young French batter, Gustav McKeon. In his debut match against the Czech Republic, the 18-year-old made 76 off only 54 deliveries. However, he became the first batter to hit back-to-back centuries in the T20I format- Switzerland (109) and Norway (101) respectively.

His run tally of 286 also broke the record for the most runs scored in the first three innings of a men’s T20I career.

Nominees For The ICC Women’s Player Of The Month Announced

The nominees for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for July 2022 are Emma Lamb and Nat Sciver of England and Renuka Singh Thakur of India.

Opener Emma Lamb was phenomenal in the ODI series against South Africa. Lamb brought up her debut century in the opening match of the series, scoring 102, and followed that up with 67 from 65 in the second ODI and 65 from 66 balls in the third, helping England clean sweep the series.

India’s Renuka Singh Thakur picked 12 wickets in 5 matches in July. She picked 7 wickets in the ODI series against Sri Lanka including figures of 3/29 in the first ODI. She then took 4/28 in the second match earning her Player of the Match in the second ODI.

She then rattled Australia with figures of 4/18 in the first match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

England batting star Nat Sciver excelled throughout the ODI and T20I series wins over South Africa. She hit back-to-back half-centuries in the ODIs and her 84 runs in the T20 series came at a serious lick. The all-rounder was handy with the ball too, with figures of 4/59 in the first ODI her standout display.
