Young Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk expressed his admiration for veteran opening batter David Warner during the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Jake Fraser-McGurk mentioned that David Warner helped him sign his contract with the Dubai Capitals team in the International League T20 (ILT20).

Jake Fraser-McGurk gained attention for his aggressive batting performances for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Fraser-McGurk was picked by the Delhi Capitals as Lungi Ngidi's replacement. He scored 330 runs in 11 matches at an average of 36.66 and a staggering strike rate of 234.04.

However, the 21-year-old batter failed to make it to Australia's 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. Fraser-McGurk was picked by the selectors as a reserve along with Matthew Short. He has yet to make his debut for the Australian cricket team in the shorter format of the game.

David Warner Looks After Me So Nicely - Jake Fraser-McGurk

Jake Fraser-McGurk discussed his friendship with David Warner on the Unplayable Podcast. The young cricketer mentioned Warner's role in getting him to join the Dubai Capitals and highlighted his supportive nature. Fraser-McGurk said that Warner has been in every team that he has been in outside of Australia.

"Warner looks after me so nicely. Not a bad person to have as one of your good mates. He's just being really good to me, and he's making me feel comfortable. Every team that I've been in outside of Australia, he's been in the team. So I've had some luck with that, and he actually got me over to play for the Dubai Capitals. So he's the one that texted me because he was a captain, and I told 'yes' straight away. I never spoke to him before that. I'm not sure how he got my number, but it was on Christmas day when he messaged me. It was pretty cool," Fraser-McGurk said.

I Was Getting A Bit Scared  - Jake Fraser-McGurk

Matthew Short commented on the close bond between Jake Fraser-McGurk and David Warner. Short mentioned that it was unusual to see Fraser-McGurk without Warner. Fraser-McGurk admitted he felt uneasy returning from the IPL without Warner by his side.

"This is the first time I've seen him without Davey. Normally, it's been Jake and Davey is one person around here," Short said.

"I have attached to his hip for the last 12 weeks. I was getting a bit scared when we went home from the IPL. I didn't have him around me. I don't know what to do," Fraser-McGurk added.

David Warner is currently representing Australia in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The left-handed batter has scored 115 runs in three matches at an average of 38.33 and an impressive strike rate of 153.33. He will be next seen in action when Australia takes on Scotland at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on June 15.
