After a disappointing WTC final, Jasprit Bumrah returned with a bang in the first Test against England at Nottingham. While he went wicketless against New Zealand, the pacer picked 9 wickets – 4 in the first innings and 5 in the second – at Trent Bridge helping India gain an upper hand in the game.

After taking his 6th Test five-wicket haul in his 21st game, Jasprit Bumrah was asked whether he had made any changes to his game. The Ahmedabad speedster said his success at Nottingham was driven more because of the mental adjustments that he made rather than any technical; clearly he – and Mohammed Shami also – had bowled more fuller lengths against England compared to the WTC final, which yielded him much better results.

The seamer underlined that he doesn’t look to make any significant changes to his game, rather just tries to improve each match with the learnings from the past.

“Not a lot of adjustments to be very honest, just the mindset adjustments. Probably not looking at the end result, being in the moment, trying to back your skills and enjoy the game of cricket,” Jasprit Bumrah said at the post-day press conference on Saturday.

“There are not a lot of changes that I have made and I am looking to do. I am just trying to improve my game all the time and trying to add new things, at the same time carrying the things that I still have,” he added.

You want to win and play to win, but we don’t want to look too far ahead: Jasprit Bumrah

India have been set a target of 209, of which the top three – KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara knocked out 52 at a quick rate in the final hour of play on Saturday, but Rahul has been dismissed.

Although Jasprit Bumrah asserted that the main aim is always to win the game, the visitors aren’t thinking too far of the target.

“You know when you start playing the game of cricket, you have to believe in yourself that you want to win and play to win, but we don’t want to look too far ahead. We have got a good start and we just want to take session by session. We will go tomorrow morning with a good mindset and hopefully take things from there,” he said.
