Abhishek Sharma, the young Indian opener who was awarded the player of the series after India's 2-1 win over Australia in the T20I series, was not handed the Impact Player of the Series medal. Instead, an all-rounder was awarded the reward in the Indian dressing room.

India toured Australia for a white-ball tour, which comprised a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's return remained the major highlights, but India lost the ODI series by a 2-1 margin to the hosts, Australia.

The T20I series remained heavily disrupted by rainfall, as the first and the final matches in the series were ruled out. Australia began with a dominating win at the MCG but then faced back-to-back losses in the third and fourth T20, which handed them a victory in the series.

Washington Sundar rewarded with Impact Player of the Series medal

India were declared the winners of the series after the final match at Brisbane was washed out due to rain. Washington Sundar, the Indian all-rounder, played a major role for India in their two wins in the T20I series.

Washington Sundar delivered with both bat and ball after he made his return to the Indian T20I side after a long time. Sundar picked 3 wickets in the series in the fourth T20I alone and helped India to a terrific win in the third T20I with a stellar 49*.

Though Arshdeep Singh was named the Player of the match, it was due to Washington Sundar's unbeaten 49 off just 23 balls with a strike rate of over 200+. He missed his second T20I half-century by just a single run; however, he went on to claim 50 T20I wickets for India during his 3-wicket haul against Australia in Carrara.

Sundar was rewarded as the Impact Player of the Series, and he said, "It's such a great feeling to get this medal from him. We know the kind of work he puts in every single day to make a lot of our jobs very easy. And yes, coming over here and getting the opportunity to play in South Africa is amazing, and to have contributed to that drive towards the team's victory. Thanks, All!!"

Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Series

The explosive opener Abhishek Sharma completed 1000 runs in the shortest format of the game and made a record of having reached the milestone in just 528 balls. Abhishek Sharma surpassed the former records held by Australia's Tim David and India's Suryakumar Yadav.

Notably, Abhishek Sharma scored 140 runs in the series with a half-century at the MCG. However, in other matches, he got off to some promising starts but was eventually dismissed. He was named the Player of the Series for his commendable show.

Abhishek Sharma was the highest run-getter in the series among players from both sides.

Washington Sundar was India's highest wicket-taker in the Australia series

Washington Sundar did not get an opportunity to bowl his full strength of overs in the Australia tour, as he delivered with the ball only on a few occasions. He picked up 5 wickets in the ODI series against Australia, as he did not go wicketless in any game.

Sundar was their highest wicket-taker in the series, as he picked 8 wickets in the ODI and the T20I series combined. He bowled in 4 matches and picked 5 wickets in the One-dayers and then 3 wickets in the T20Is as well.
