Former batsman VVS Laxman and his support staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) are reportedly set to accompany Team India to Zimbabwe for the forthcoming T20I series,

As of now, the BCCI is yet to announce the new head coach of the Indian team. Rahul Dravid is set to step down from the post after the conclusion of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI recently interviewed Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman for the post and the former is the front-runner to replace Dravid. However, Gambhir is unlikely to begin his tenure with the series against Zimbabwe.

According to a report from PTI, Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as the India coach is likely to be the tour of Sri Lanka. The report further added that Gambhir's appointment is a done deal and the announcement from the BCCI is a mere formality. The board is likely to announce Dravid's replacement in the next few days. After the appointment, Gambhir will also get a chance to pick his support staff comprising a batting, bowling, and fielding coach.

"There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new look squad to Zimbabwe. Laxman and the NCA team has always filled up whenever Rahul Dravid and the first team coaches have been taking periodic breaks during their stint," a BCCI source told PTI.

The likes of Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Nitish Reddy are likely to be picked in the team for the series. All three players had impressed with their performances in this year's IPL and are likely to get the chance to make their T20I debut next month.
