Former Indian cricketer Ifran Pathan made a bold prediction for the leading wicket-taker in the South Africa team during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Irfan Pathan backed left-arm pacer Marco Jansen to excel with the ball in the prestigious tournament in India.

Marco Jansen made his World Cup debut during a group stage match against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, October 7. He dismissed Pathum Nissanka with a brilliant inswing delivery. He also picked up the wicket of Kusal Perera in the match.

Marco Jansen Can Be The Highest Wicket Taker – Irfan Pathan

Irfan Pathan took to his social media handle X (formerly known as Twitter) to express that Marco Jansen has the potential to become South Africa’s top wicket-taker in the World Cup.

“Just get the feeling that Marco Jansen can be the highest wicket taker for South Africa in this World Cup. Have all the Ingredients,” Irfan Pathan wrote.

Marco Jansen was a little bit aggressive with the ball, conceding 92 runs in his 10-over quota. The right-handed batter also contributed crucial runs with the bat, scoring 12 runs off 7 deliveries, including a six.

South Africa Register A Massive 102 Run Victory Over Sri Lanka

Temba Bavuma-led South Africa got off to a commanding start in their opening match of the 2023 World Cup. The Proteas registered a convincing 102-run victory against Dasun Shanaka’s led team. Following the victory, they moved to second place in the 10-team table.

The Proteas side put up a mammoth total of 428/5 in 50 overs after being asked to bat first. They registered the highest-ever total in ODI World Cup history. Rassie van der Dussen (108), Aiden Markram (106), and Quinton de Kock (100) made significant contributions.

In the second innings, South Africa managed to pick up an early breakthrough with the ball. Wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis smashed a half-century off just 25 balls to keep the team in the chase. However, Mendis was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada after scoring 76 runs.
