Former England National Cricket Team all-rounder Moeen Ali, who also led his team in international cricket, has named the best Test batsman of the India National Cricket Team right now.
Moeen Ali acknowledged the historic show of captain Shubman Gill with the bat in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, but didn't pick him as India's best Test batter; instead, he went with KL Rahul.
KL Rahul shows amazing consistency
The Karnataka batter Rahul finally did justice to his talent and consistently scored the runs for the India National Cricket Team in the five-match Test series against the England National Cricket Team.
Over the years, Rahul started off very well in several series, but as it progressed, his form also went down. Questions were raised over his ability to score runs consistently, and he faced a lot of criticism.
KL Rahul made sure to shut down his critics with his performance in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as he scored good runs across all five matches and finished as the third-highest run-getter in the series.
In five innings, KL Rahul scored 532 runs at an average of 53.20. He smashed two centuries and two fifties on the tour, taking the responsibility of being a senior very well.

I genuinely believe that he’s one of the best players in the world - Moeen Ali
Speaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Moeen Ali lauded Shubman Gill but said that KL Rahul is a superior batter to the India skipper.
Moeen Ali stated that KL Rahul is one of the best players in the world and put him on the same league as Joe Root, Kane Williamson, and Steve Smith.
“I think people don’t realise how good someone like KL Rahul is, particularly in opening the batting. He was brilliant last series as well in England, and he is brilliant again this series. I actually think Shubman scored the most runs and was outstanding, but I thought KL’s role within the side was probably the best I have seen him play over the years.
"He is such a good player, and I genuinely believe that he’s one of the best players in the world, and I have said that for a while. Sometimes I just feel he doesn’t take the handbrake off, just free up a bit more, but generally I would say he’s one of the best players in the world,” Moeen Ali said on the Beard Before Wicket podcast.
He looks really good in defence, in attack - Adil Rashid
Moeen Ali’s podcast co-host, Adil Rashid, was on the same page as his former teammate regarding KL Rahul. Adil Rashid said that Rahul doesn't get the credit he deserves, and he is a class player.
"He (KL Rahul) goes under the radar. Like this series, how he has batted, his tempo, his technique. You speak of the art of batting in Test cricket... Going forward, going back, so there is a lot of that in it. It was really tight in defence but then half volleys he drove.
"That was his game in order. He looked very comfortable and his game was in order. And that’s the first time you have probably seen that over a period of five games where he consistently looked right. This guy looks classy. He looks really good in defence, in attack,” Rashid said.
