Afghanistan batter Rahmanullah has been penalized for breaching ICC’s code of conduct during the England vs Afghanistan game in the ICC World Cup 2023. The keeper-batter was reprimanded with one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz breached Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This is associated with “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match. The keeper-batter was fined for slamming his bat on boundary ropes.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz got run out against England and was fuming after that. He was livid with his captain Hashmatullah Shahidi and on his way back he murmured something. As he reached the boundary fady ropes, he slammed his bat on the boundary rope and chair, because of which he was fined.

The sanctions were imposed by umpire Jeff Crowe. Rahmanullah Gurbaz admitted the offence and there was no need for an official hearing. The keeper-batter scored 80 runs in the match and was one of the main factors behind Afghanistan thumping England.

Afghanistan registered their first win in the ICC World Cup since 2015. They thumped the defending champions by 69 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. They were on the top with both bat and ball and put England under tremendous pressure.

Afghanistan will be next seen in action when they take on New Zealand on Tuesday (17th October) in Chennai. The surface there will suit their spinners and it’ll be no surprise if they emerge victorious Black Caps, who are yet to lose a game in the ICC World Cup 2023.
