Former England captain Michael Vaughan has taken a hilarious dig at Pakistan cricket’s tendency to be involved in controversies during World Cups.
Their campaign in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has been marred by a number of controversies. It all began well for the Men in Green as they defeated the Netherlands and Sri Lanka. But things went downhill after that as they lost four games in a row including a loss against Afghanistan for the first time in their ODI history.
And as Babar Azam and his teammates were struggling on the field, rumors and reports piled more pressure on them. From the rumors of unrest in the dressing room to PCB chief Zaka Ashraf allegedly not responding to the captain’s calls and messages, Pakistan faced a number of controversies. Midway through the competition, their chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq also stepped down from his post.
Michael Vaughan takes a dig at Pakistan:
With controversies hogging all the limelight for Pakistan once again, Michael Vaughan has come up with a hilarious statement for them. In a recent podcast, he hilariously stated that Pakistan would go on to win every World Cup if they face any major controversy right before the start of the competition.
“It’s all kicking off in Pakistan. If you go through the history of the World Cup, the World Cup does not start until this controversy with Pakistan. I don’t understand with Pakistan. Why don’t they just sack everyone the day before the tournament starts? They will win every World Cup. What are you waiting for,” said Michael Vaughan before speaking about Inzamam-ul-Haq’s shock resignation as the chief selector midway through the tournament.
He shared a clip of the podcast on his X handle and wrote: “I worry about Pakistan tomorrow .. it’s been too calm this last couple of days .. they need someone to resign today or leak a what’s app message”

Meanwhile, Pakistan ended their 4-match losing streak with a 7-wicket win over Bangladesh to keep their slim semifinal hopes alive. With 6 points from 7 games, their chances are hanging by a thread. They will be in action on Saturday (November 4) against New Zealand who are also in the semifinals race.
