Former cricketer Nasser Hussain shared his thoughts on Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023. Nasser Hussain criticized Pakistan’s reliance on other teams’ results, suggesting they should focus on improving their own game.
The Babar Azam-led team is still in the race to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. Pakistan’s chances have improved significantly after New Zealand and Sri Lanka suffered losses in recent matches. They are in fifth place with six points and a net run rate of -0.024.
Pakistan Has Got A Habit Of Depending On Others – Nasser Hussain
Nasser Hussain pointed out that the Men in Green managed to register victories against lower-ranked teams in the 10-team points table. Hussain’s statement underlines that the Pakistan team struggled against the top in the ICC tournament.
“Pakistan has got a habit of depending on others in every ICC tournament. Instead of depending on others, they should work on their game. They are left with two big games against NZ and Eng. I bet Eng will beat Pakistan. Pakistan has beaten the 7th, 8th, and 9th teams this World Cup. They should not get excited,” Hussain opined.
The Pakistan team registered three victories out of the seven games they played so far. They registered victories against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. They lost the matches against India, Australia, Afghanistan, and South Africa.
We Are Trying To Win The Next Two Matches – Babar Azam
Speaking after the victory against Bangladesh, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam expressed the team’s aim to win their upcoming two matches to improve their chances of qualifying for the knockout matches.
“All credit to the boys the way we played in all three departments. We know, if Fakhar bats for 20-30 overs, it’s a different ball game, he played his natural game. Good to see him,” Babar Azam said.
“We are trying to win the next two matches, we’ll see where we stand. We started well, the way Shaheen started. After 15-20 overs, they built a partnership, our main bowlers picked wickets. We picked wickets in the middle overs. Thank you (fans) so much for the support.”
