South Africa have added Edward Moore to the Test squad for the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand. The Proteas have named a makeshift squad for the tour as most of the first-team players are busy playing in the ongoing second edition of SA20.
Edward Moore’s inclusion has only increased the number of uncapped players in the South Africa Test squad. Cricket South Africa (CSA) had already named as many as seven uncapped players in their squad and the latest addition has taken the number to eight. The squad size has also increased to 15.
Edward Moore earned the call-up after left-handed batsman Tony de Zorzi became available to ply his trade in SA20. The southpaw recently earned a contract from Durban’s Super Giants. De Zorzi was set to open for South Africa in New Zealand. He had played as an opener during the A team matches against West Indies but will now play in the SA20. The CSA has already stated that players are obliged to fulfill SA20 duties ahead of international cricket.
Edward Moore’s career so far:
Edward Moore is yet to play international cricket although he has ample experience in first-class cricket. A left-handed batsman, he plays as an opener and is currently playing for Western Province in South Africa’s first-class competition.
He made his first-class debut in 2012 and has played 117 games in the format so far. So far, he has scored 7743 runs with the help of 17 centuries and 42 half-centuries. In the ongoing season, Edward Moore has scored 414 runs at an average of 51.57.
He has also played 51 List-A games and has scored over 2000 runs with the help of 4 centuries and 13 half-centuries. Edward Moore is likely to open the innings with uncapped Neil Brand who has been named as the captain for the series.
