Romario Shepherd, on Monday (January 15), took a breathtaking catch during the game between Durban Super Giants and Joburg Super Kings in the ongoing SA20 2024.

The stunning effort from the West Indies allrounder came in the fourth over of Durban Super Giants’ innings when Matthew Breetzke was facing Nandre Burger. The left-arm pacer bowled a shortish delivery and the ball was shaping away towards the off stump. Breetzke came up with a brilliant shot as he made a solid connection with his short-arm pull.

The ball was timed well by the batsman and was looking set to go the distance but Romario Shepherd had other ideas. He was fielding on the ring at the mid-wicket and just as the ball was flying past him, Romario Shepherd stunned one and all with his effort.

He made a full-length dive and stretched his right hand high above his head to pluck the ball out of the air with one hand before falling to the ground. His shocked teammates’ reaction to the catch said it all as Romario Shepherd completed one of the great catches seen on the cricket field.

Talking about the game, Durban Super Giants won the game by 37 runs. Batting first, the Durban-based outfit scored 145 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. At one stage, they were reeling at 34 for 34 for before being reduced to 73 for 5. A good total was looking out of reach for them but in-form Heinrich Klaasen came up with another fine knock to propel his team to a competitive total.

The right-handed batsman scored 64 off 41 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. No other batter from his side could even reach the 20-run mark. For the Joburg Super Kings, Lizaad Williams picked up 4 wickets for 26 runs.

Chasing 146, the Super Kings finished their innings on 108 for 9. Only Reeza Hendricks (38) and Moeen Ali (36) managed to reach the double-digit mark with the bat for their team as the other nine players failed to get going. Reece Topley was the pick of the bowlers for his side, taking 3 for 19 off his 4 overs.
