New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has included fast bowler Jacob Duffy in their squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against the UAE, which is set to begin on Thursday, August 17. Jacob Duffy replaced Blair Tickner, who withdrew from the tour due to personal reasons.
Blair Tickner was initially named in New Zealand’s 15-member squad. However, Tickner opted to remain at home with his wife following the recent birth of their daughter. Duffy, who last played for New Zealand during the India tour in January, has replaced him in the squad.
We’re Alad To Be Able To Support Blair – Gary Stead
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that the team management supported Blair Tickner’s decision to stay back at home, emphasizing that the birth of a child is a special and significant time.
“We’re a family environment and after speaking with Blair we fully support him being at home with Sarah and young Florence. The birth of a child is a special time and we’re glad to be able to support Blair in being at home,” Stead said.
“Jacob’s been part of many Blackcaps squads in the past and has always acquitted himself well at international level. He’s got good skills and experience and we look forward to welcoming him into our squad in Dubai,” he added.
New Zealand T20I Squad For UAE Tour
The Kiwis have only played against the UAE once in international cricket, and that was during the 1996 World Cup. New Zealand defeated the opposition by 109 runs in the encounter. The visitors have picked a second-string squad for the UAE tour, resting their experienced players.
Following the T20I series, the New Zealand team will travel to England for a white-ball series as preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup, which is set to be played in India later this year. They will play an ODI series against Bangladesh just before the marquee tournament.
