South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock said he will look for more opportunities in white-ball cricket in different competitions across the globe.

De Kock, who played 54 Test matches and scored 3,300 runs at 38.32, retired from the red-ball format earlier in January this year, just after the first Test against India in Centurion.

Given the South African gloveman’s age (29), the decision to announce retirement was shocking not just for the South African fans but the entire cricket fraternity.

The Johannesburg-born player said his decision to cut down the oldest format from his playing career was to allow himself enough time with family members.

Not really (Test retirement wasn’t shocking). It’s just a matter of a lot of cricket and time spent away from home. But obviously retiring from Test cricket has opened up opportunities and I will take them if I am available,” de Kock told Telegraph India.

“I will sit down and discuss with the family if I will play in different leagues or not… I’m not 30 yet and wish to play as long as I can. So it’s just about managing myself,” he added.

Along with his partner Sasha Hurly, Quinton de Kock welcomed their first child – a baby girl named ‘Kiara’ in January this year.

Unlike his role of an opening batter in the white-ball formats, the left-hander used to play a key role in the Proteas’ lower-middle order along with tail-enders.

He scored 22 half-centuries and six hundreds in Test cricket with the best being 141 against West Indies in the first Test in June last year.

De Kock continues to feature regularly in the limited-overs teams for the Proteas and will play in the upcoming five-match T20I series against India next month in their backyard.
