England batsman Ollie Pope has reckoned that England will follow the Bazball approach during the away Test series against India next year. Ollie Pope also spoke about facing the lethal spin attack by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja during the series.
England will tour India for a Test series in January next year. England has tasted a lot of success with their Bazball approach under skipper Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. However, the strategy will face a big challenge in India, with spin-friendly and low-scoring stadiums.
England Will Follow Bazball Approach During India Test Series: Ollie Pope
During a conversation with The Telegraph, England’s no.3 batter Ollie Pope said that England will follow their Bazball style even during the Test series against India.
“That is exactly how we are going to see things (taking the aggressive style). It’s about managing your expectations. You want to score a hundred every game, and you’ve failed if you don’t. But in India, it might be that case that a run-a-ball 60 is match-winning, 200 might be a good score on some pitches,” Ollie Pope said.
Ollie Pope, who also played some games in Ashes 2023, said that spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will pose a big danger to right-handers during the series. However, he added that England will keep playing their way as much as they can.
“There’s a threat to both edges as a right-hander. Ashwin is probably the best spinner in the world, but (Ravindra) Jadeja and Axar are spinning the ball away from the bat sharply. It’s knowing how you want to score; taking on the bowler and putting them under pressure. It’s a tough place to go and win, but we will give it as much of a crack as we can playing our way,” Ollie Pope further said.
England’s Bazball approach was highly appreciated during The Ashes 2023 this year, despite the series ending in a 2-2 tie. England thoroughly dominated Australia with their Bazball approach during the series.
The England tour of India 2024 will commence on January 25. England and India will play a total of five Tests during the series. It will be a crucial series for both teams in the ongoing World Test Championship 2023-25.
