Chasing the target, India were off to a poor start as Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav got out early, but Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Rinku Singh made great contributions to help India complete the run chase in 19.4 overs.

After India's win, PM Narendra Modi posted a brilliant post on X, labelling India's win as the continuation of Operation Sindoor, but on the field of cricket.

"#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Congrats to our cricketers," PM Modi wrote on X.

Notably, Operation Sindoor was a large-scale, precision military operation conducted by India in response to a terrorist attack carried out by the Pakistan-based group on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam. The government launched Operation Sindoor on the night of May 7-8, 2025, as a calibrated, non-escalatory, and precise retaliation targeting nine terrorist training camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation involved coordinated strikes across multiple domains — land, air, and sea — utilizing advanced technology.

Congratulations to Team India on winning - VVS Laxman

The former India National Cricket Team batsman VVS Laxman also took to X to praise Tilak Varma for his unbelievable half-century.

"Congratulations to Team India on winning the #AsiaCup This triumph is not just about lifting the trophy, it’s about courage, belief and playing for the flag Special congratulations to @TilakV9 who showed maturity beyond years and proved that big stages are for brave hearts This victory belongs to each and every member of the squad #TeamIndia #AsiaCupFinal," the batting legend wrote on X.

India's Asia Cup-winning history

Team India won the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup under the leadership of the legendary Sunil Gavaskar. From thereon, they continued their dominance in the competition and clinched the titles on a regular basis.

Their second title came in 1988 as they crushed Sri Lanka in Dhaka by 6 wickets, riding on the stunning half-century from the batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The 1990-91 final saw India win the Asia Cup title on home turf at Eden Gardens, powered by Sanjay Manjrekar and Mohammad Azharuddin's heroics in the summit clash against Sri Lanka, which helped them win by 7 wickets

Their fourth title victory came in 1995 in Sharjah as they beat Sri Lanka by 8 wickets, thanks to the sensational batting masterclass from Azharuddin and Sidhu.

Then, a 15-year wait for the trophy ended in 2010 in Dambulla, with MS Dhonis side beating Sri Lanka by 81 runs. In 2016, the Asia Cup was switched to the T20 format, and the Indian team showcased their dominance in 20-over cricket by beating Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the final.

India again won the Asia Cup in 2018 by beating Bangladesh in a thriller in Dubai by 3 wickets. Then, in 2023 in Colombo, India produced a historic performance in the final and annihilated Sri Lanka. Mohammed Siraj produced a historic six-wicket spell, dismantling the hosts for just 50, and the openers finished the chase without losing a wicket, sealing a 10-wicket win. And now, India have won their 9th title by beating Pakistan.
