Fans lauded Tilak Varma for his splendid innings in the Asia Cup final, tagging his heroics as 'Operation Tilak' after 'Operation Sindoor,' claiming another display of India's dominance over Pakistan.
India defeated Pakistan three times in this edition of the Asia Cup. First in the group-stage games, then in the Super-4 stages, and now finally in the finals of the competition. This marks Gautam Gambhir's second win after the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2025.
Tilak Varma dominates in the Asia Cup Final with an unbeaten half-century
While most of the matches have been dominated by India due to the splendid innings played by opener Abhishek Sharma, Pakistan were delighted with his early dismissal. Having dismissed the Indian top order within the powerplay, the Men in Green were at one stage having an upper hand over their rivals.
However, India went on to prove that they are the World Champions in the shortest format of the game. Tilak Varma's stupendous innings of 69* off 53 balls and a six off Haris Rauf in the final over of the game helped India steal the show.
While Sanju Samson contributed significantly to a healthy partnership in the middle phase, it was Shivam Dube who helped in scoring some quick runs at the back end. The winning runs came off Rinku Singh's bat, who faced just a single delivery in the entire Asia Cup 2025.
India won the 9th Asia Cup title in 2025
India have been crowned the champions of the Asia Cup for the 9th time in the history of the continental championship. Suryakumar Yadav wins his first title in the Asia Cup and would hence be cited as the captain of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.
This is India's 9th title, as they defended their title from 2023. India had defeated Sri Lanka back then, and now they have defeated Pakistan for the first time in an Asia Cup final.
