"Our batters are authentic"- MS Dhoni brutally assaults RCB-SRH in his 1st toss as CSK captain

Chennai Super Kings MS Dhoni took a subtle dig at Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad in his 1st toss as captain in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He openly mentioned the difference between his team and the other team's batting order.

Dhoni returned as captain of Chennai Super Kings after more than 600 days as he will be leading the team in the ongoing game against Kolkata Knight Riders. The match between the teams is taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (11th April).

One of the major reasons behind the poor performances of Chennai Super Kings has been their batting. They have struggled to score big as well as chase the target, failing to score runs in the powerplay. However, under Dhoni, they would be eager to change this and get back to winning ways.

MS Dhoni, at the toss of the KKR game, talked about the importance of winning each and every game from now. He said that they need to do the basics right, taking catches and delivering dot balls. Speaking about the same:

"It is important now, every game is important. We have lost too many matches, and now it is important to do the basics right - have dot balls and take our catches. A couple of games we lost by big margins, but otherwise it was about the small things - about one over going for 20 runs."

Dhoni further took a dig at Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad, saying that they have authentic batters who don't slog everything. He also urged his batters to back their instincts. While elaborating on the same, he said:

"Our batters are more authentic as batters, they won't slog everything. They just need to back their instincts. It is important to start well, get boundaries early on and try to get a couple of early wickets as well."

This is the first time since the IPL 2023 final that MS Dhoni will be captaining the league. The keeper-batter has a win percentage of 58.85 as a skipper in the league. This is the highest for any captain who leads the team in at least 50 matches.

Chennai Super Kings, who are currently 9th on the table, will be keen to stage a strong comeback in the league under the leadership of MS Dhoni. It remains to be seen how they fare in the ongoing game against Kolkata Knight Riders.
