Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a nightmare first half of the IPL 2021 as they lie on the bottom 8th spot of the points table with just one win from seven matches and batsman Priyam Garg explained what went wrong with the team.

The IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after multiple cases of COVID-19 were found with more than 4 players, two coaches and much other support staff tested positive for the deadly virus. However, on Saturday, the BCCI confirmed that the remainder of the IPL 2021 will be completed in September-October, but this time, the tournament will be played in the UAE.

Even This Year, The Players Gave Their Best, But We Could Not Execute Our Plans: Priyam Garg On SRH’s Performance In IPL 2021

Priyam Garg had done well for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2020 when they did extremely well finished third after qualifying for the playoffs. However, in IPL 2021, the right-hander did not get an opportunity to play in the first seven matches of the IPL.

The SRH team did so badly that the management comprising of coach Trevor Bayliss, director of cricket Tom Moody, mentor VVS Laxman, and bowling coach Muttiah Muralitharan took the decision to strip captaincy from Australia’s David Warner and made Kane Williamson the new captain.

“Our team always gives its best. Even this year, the players gave their best, but we could not execute our plans at the crucial moments. I think the captaincy change was the management’s call because you can only play four foreigners so they wanted their best XI. I believe SRH always fielded their best XI. However, we could not perform well in a few games this year,” Priyam Garg told India TV Cricket.

Priyam Garg played 14 matches in IPL 2020, aggregating 133 runs at a strike rate close to 120. They were surprised when the team management kept him on the bench during the first half of this year’s tournament.
