Pakistan lost a bilateral series to Afghanistan, going down 2-0 in the ongoing 3-match T20 series in UAE. Despite the results, Pakistan’s regular keeper Mohammad Rizwan has sent words of encouragement to the young side.
The Pakistan squad for this series was filled with youngsters who had performed well in 2023. From explosive keeper-batter Azam Khan to opening batsman Saim Ayub, to seam bowlers Zaman Kahn and Ihsanullah.

Rizwan, who was out of the team due to a knee injury, sent a tweet in support of the team led by Shadab Khan (in absence of regular captain Babar Azam). He reassured the team that they will come back with a bang in the 3rd T20.
“I strongly believe in these young superstars of Pakistan cricket. Stay strong. Let these losses fuel your inner fire. Keep working hard. Keep believing. You are champions. You will come back with a bang,” said Mohammad Rizwan.

Afghanistan looked good in the series. Despite not facing a full-strength Pakistan squad, they defeated the Men in Green for the first time in a series. In a crucial World Cup year, Rashid Khan and Co. will be looking to generate as much momentum as they can.
Ex-Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar too praised Afghanistan for their series win against Pakistan
Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar congratulated Afghanistan for their maiden series win against Pakistan, saying he is also expecting them to give a solid performance at the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
The Afghans showed their bowling prowess during the series, stopping Pakistan on 92 and 130 in the 2 T20s respectively, and then comfortably chasing down the targets.
Expressing concern for Pak’s performance on his YouTube channel, Shoaib praised Afghanistan for their wins in the series, calling them a formidable side.
“Afghanistan is a formidable side. Their spinners are great. Mohammad Nabi bowled well. All their spinners are mysteries. With these mystery spinners, Afghanistan is going to be one of the best teams in the world cup to be held in India.” he said.
Afghanistan has already qualified for the 2023 ODI World Cup in October-November, having already confirmed their spot in the top-8 in the ICC Men’s World Cup Super League Table.
