Nathan Lyon created history in the first Test between Australia and Pakistan as he became the third Australian and the eighth overall player to reach the milestone of taking 500 wickets in Test cricket. Lyon got Faheem Ashraf struck on the pads but the umpire denied the appeal. However, Pat Cummins signaled for a DRS and the review showed three reds leading Lyon to his 500th Test scalp.

Nathan Lyon is only the third Australian to achieve this enormous feat with Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath being the first two. Shane Warne finished with 708 wickets in his Test career while Glenn McGrath got 563 scalps in his career. Nathan Lyon now has 501 wickets in his test career.

When asked about his feelings on taking 500 Test wickets after the match, he talked about how he was lucky to get the scalp and said that it was a proud moment for him. He said that he still thinks it’s a dream to be named with legends like Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.

He said, “It’s something I’m very proud about … personally, to take 500, it’s a bloody big milestone. I still pinch myself when I see my name next to those guys (Warne and McGrath). Bit of a trademark, the left-hander, sliding on and hitting the pad. Lucky enough it was three reds,”

Nathan Lyon sustained a calf injury during the second Test of the Ashes against England earlier this year. He was sidelined for a couple of months due to the injury. Before making his comeback for Australia in the Perth Test, Nathan Lyon played at the domestic level to get himself ready.

“Nice to get back after the injury, I have not taken anything for granted, especially playing for Australia, appreciate every moment of my career,” he added.

In 123 Test matches so far, Nathan Lyon has taken 501 wickets with 22 four-wicket hauls and 23 five-wicket hauls to his name. Nathan Lyon finished with figures of 8-2-14-2 in the second innings after claiming figures of 24-3-66-3 in the first. Australian team led by Pat Cummins, took a 1-0 lead in the series after crushing Pakistan by a mammoth margin of 360 runs.

The two teams will now face each other in Melbourne in the ‘Boxing Day’ Test. After that, Australia and Pakistan will play each other in Sydney where the last match of the series is scheduled after the New Year celebrations. Australia’s Mitchell Marsh was given the Player of The Match for his half-centuries in both innings scoring a 90 and a 63* respectively.

Pakistan came to Australia with a perfect WTC 2025 PCT but they lost points after this huge defeat against Australia. Pakistan will hope for a comeback in the second test but Australia will not give them a lot of chances as they are very good in their home conditions.
